MISCONCEPTION 2

1 SAMUEL 13:1-13
I welcome you again this week in Jesus name.

Last week, I share with you, the first part of this message, hope you haven’t forgotten and if you have, you can read through the bullettin again.

Misconception is not an excuse because God will not accept it. The man of God in the text above was really rage in verse 11.
I want you to carefully considered the tense scenario yet his excuse was gruesome.

Pastor, you should understand what made me took the decision, if God didn’t take it then He would not now.

Some of us are the architect of  the problem in our life because we assume when we should have waited or ask God. The reason, many home is a no go area is simply of the sting of misconception.

When a thought or decision is connoted carnally it will bring problem.
When Jesus was teaching the apostle about the Holy Spirit in John 16:13, He is so specific about His work.
If you are one of those who had abandoned  the Holy Spirit, there is still a way out.
When Saul resolved to misconception:
-   Samuel said he had disobeyed God
-  His kingdom was torn
-  He was replaced by another person.
That is what happened to anybody who is not yet ready to repent.

What to do to escape from the trap of misconception:
-  Guide your heart diligently, Proverbs 4:23
Stop listening to carnal thought, always purify your mind with the blood of Jesus

- Learn to wait on God whenever, there is a decision to make, Isaiah  40:30-31
Do not permit the situation around you to rule you because we live by faith not by  sight, 2 Corinthians 5:7. If we live and take our decision based on our sight we will disappoint God as Saul did.

Do not be desperate,  Matthew 6:25-33
When you are desperate, you hearken to the persistent thought which possibly might be the wrong decision, Jeremiah 17:9.

Avoid the wrong company of people, Psalm 1
An English adage says birds of like feather congregate in the same proximity. It is better to flee from the wrong people they will destroy your relationship with God. I am not telling not to preach to them but becoming too intimate with them will expose you so be careful with the company around you.

Spend a lot of time in Daily devotion, Joshua 1:8
You can only know God when you spend time studying His words and prayerfully seeking His mind. The secret of the Lord is in His word and the more do, the more it is reveals.

Never ignore His chastisement, 1 Cor 11:32
It is better to fall in the Lord’s hand than being destroy by satan, ask David in 2 Samuel 24:14.

Develop your mind in spiritual things,   1 Timothy 3:6
It is important for every Christian to thirst and develop into Christ nature rather than spend time on carnal thing. The more you know God, the easier it becomes discern matter.

Learn to inquire from God always, Habakkuk 2:1-5
Jesus also taught the disciple this principle while teaching them in Matthew 7:7. The more you ask, the more you know.

Take note of all these things and you shall be immune to the flies of misconception. God bless you, till we meet next.

Remember to pray with holy zeal the prayer point at the back of this bullettin. remember to tell some one how great Jesus loves him/her.

THE UNTAPPED WEAPON HUMILITY

Who humbleth Himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth... Psalm 113:6

And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased: and he that shall Humble himself shall be exalted.. Matthew 23:12

Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the might hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time. 1 Peter 5:5-6, James 4:10

The lenten period  should be for deep reflection on our Christian life. The yearly observation should not be a mere jamboree but a  time of  retreat for our souls.
So, let us examine the untapped weapon which is the greatest of all to unlock our heavenly citizenry.
Humility is beyond the facial expression of coolness  or sanity but much more deeper in expressing the heart of our Lord Jesus.
Humility signifies lowliness or total submissiveness to God and man. Humility in a higher and ethical sense is that by which a man has a modest estimate of his own worth, and submits himself to others.
Psalm 131 is one of the shortest psalms to read, but one of the longest to learn. It’s ‘a short ladder yet one that rises to a great height.
St. Augustine, a 13th century priest wrote ‘ the 3 greatest virtues of Christianity: humility, humility, and humility.’ Being humble is a choice to credit God, not ourselves, for our abilities, and then to use those gifts in God’s service.
Proud people are usually involved with what they regard as important and significant things; they wouldn’t lower themselves with things beneath them. In contrast, David admits I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me.
Humility brings contentment and thanksgiving. It is admitting that God is the source of every blessing, we turn in gratitude and give Him the credit, Deut 8:18.
Sometimes ago I said what satan was struggling to wrestle from the hand of God is what Jesus won on the altar of humility, Isaiah 14:12-17, Ezekiel 28:14-19 Phillipians 2:5-10.
God desires the humble, He wants to  reveal secrets to them, train and equip them for exploits.
According to the scripture also humbled Himself to behold He creation, Psalm 113:6.

James 4:6 says God resist the proud but gives more grace to the humble, it simply means you can not grow in salvation packages if you are not humble i.e heaven is not sure. The fruit of the spirit is the attributes that make Christian stand out but ask yourself do you have any.
This is my fear, 90% of the people reading this article will keep justifying their action. Prayer out of an exalted heart is just an exercise in futility, Proverbs 15:8. Giving out of a proud heart is just a jamboree,  it is waste of time and resources. One of the reason we became Christian is to be transformed into God nature, 1 Cor 6:16-17.

Humbling yourself is giving all glory to God alone and he would in turn lift your life to the next level.
The Lord once told me, if there is one thing that will lead many Christian to hell, it is pride.
Rebellion is a product of pride, Numbers 16:1-35, please note the verse 2-3  .
To escape from the claws of pride is to allow the Holy spirit to purge you and refill your heart with the grace of God.
Carnality had taken  toll on many of us, so much that we become daft to repent and ask for God help.
Why don’t you run to the Golgotha now, when there is still time,  Hebrew 9:27. Blaming the devil is becoming a watchword rather than submitting ourselves, James 4:7.
The reason satan is not afraid of most of us is because we share the same attributes ‘PRIDE’ 1 John 3:8 says, you are in God’s danger book by not repenting from the sin of pride. The choice is yours today, make it and live, Deut 30:19.

BRETHREN PRESS ON

Glory be to God on high for a week full of activities, we had revival and our father(Revd F.A. Afuwape) was finally committed to mother earth. The glory of God descended upon all we did and we have all reason to  thank God. Every of our guest returned safely back to their destination with an heart full of joy. The testimony of a godly and outstanding life filled the air from every corner during daddy’s services of songs and burial. What will people recall about you when you depart?

The words of Apostle Paul is the message to us this morning, it is not just a charge but a direction. Lets consider the content of this text.
..that I may know Him and the power of His ressurrection
- Knowing is discovery
- it is recovery,
- it is connecting
- it is understanding
- it is attaining
- it is holding firm to the truth

I have always asked myself what the power of resurrection is:
- it is understanding the power of the grace we have in Jesus, Ephesians 1:7-8

- Grabbing the power released through Christ deaths, Rom 8:37, Col 2:15

- Wisdom to win souls to the kingdom of God.

What is it to ’PRESS ON’:
- It is the drive to succeed
- it is holding on despite the storm arising
- it is having a vision and pursuing it
- It is running with focus
- it is keeping tab on the journey to satisfy our master.
Above all, it should be done with spiritual and physical maturity not  toddler mindset.

Everyone of us must really PRESS ON in our service to God if we trully desire to get to heaven and fulfill the mind of God.

It is our heritage to continue the legacy of our departed father who did all he could to make sure this ministry excel in all things.
None of us have excuse to fail.

I dare you to contribute your best not hypocrisy because there is a reward for all we are doing( Gal 6:7-8).

A NEW THING

Last Sunday I shared with you, the prerequisites to having dawn of new experience which was titled LOOKING BACK IS GOING BACK (Isaiah 43:18, 2 Corinthians 5:17, Phillipians 3:13-14). I emphasized more on the punches of experience be it positive or negative. Don’t forget I defined the acronym  PAST (Ploughing - Against the - Salvation - Train).  No one ever have a new experience except you give up your comfort zone for the never expiring grace of God. Many people have refused to come to God or excel in life because of the former things.

This week, I am sharing with you the part two of the five Sunday series ‘BEHOLD I WILL DO A NEW THING’.
This is God speaking , it is a promise of another chapter of life which differs from the old operating system. It is a promise of the manifestation of God’s creative power and might. It is beyond the  deliverance from the Egyptians, Philistines, Syrians, Ammonites, Perizites, Babylonians; it is the release of a new order. The new thing as defined in this text is very clear enough, the way in the wilderness and the water in the desert but wait lets consider the factors that will bring about its fulfilment.

New thing need new vessel - Mark 2:22, Luke 5:37
New Thing need new thinking - Rom 12:2a
New Thing need new Attitude - Eph 4:23
New thing need new understanding, Proverbs 2:11b
New Thing need new Vision - Matthew 6:10,33, 2 Peter 3:9 Deut 2:3

Don’t just read the scripture without having full understanding of the message, Elisha did nothing at Jericho until he had the new bowl and salt because power most change hands. He went to the source of the water to bring about change, have you asked yourself why or you think he did that out of his own volition capital NO it must have being the inspiration of the spirit of God.

The more Christians wake  up to their responsibilities the more we witness the fulfilment of God’s promises.

The coming of Jesus is to make us a brand new creature so we must genuinely transformed into God nature (James 1:18).
The new thing is for new being; you can not claimed to be born again and yet refused to let go of your former self. You can deceive everybody but not God and yourself. You know whom you are even without the intrusion of others. There are dearth of born again Christian particularly in our time.

NEW THINKING - Romans 12:2a
Several time in the book of Proverbs, the scripture emphasized on right thinking. No one exceeds his thought life, you are a product of your thinking. God can not bless a man who have accept the fate as life.
NEW ATTITUDE - Ephesians 4:23
Attitude is a plane that will lift you to your destiny. A wrong attitude will produce  a wrong lifestyle. Your attitude determines your altitude in life. God is against people with wrong attitude, Isaiah 43:18. Your attitude will determine your spiritual growth.

NEW UNDERSTANDING: When you take your time to understand the precept of God and kingdom dynamics, you will be above your peers. You don’t walk with God without deep understanding of how thing work with Him. The jews were caught napping factually each they have an encounter with Jesus, remember Nicodemus (John 3).

NEW VISION:  God will not give you the new things until you change your vision of  vanity to kingdom focus, Ecc 5:7, if your vision does match His then you have become like the world running consistently to satisfy satan (1 John 2:15-16).Jer 1:11

I hope and pray you understand this message of kingdom dynamics to receive the new era in Jesus name. Join us next week for another of this powerful series. God bless you (amen).

STAY BLESSED

THE RECIPE FOR A GODLY  HOME

This is the era of hypocritic Christianity; we have left the foundation to do the things acceptable by the world.
Some of us have become foolish like the heathen, we thought we could outsmart satan. Satan have been in existence for God knows when and you,  born less than 200yrs ago think you can play him out, not possible.
There is total need for us to revisit the recipe which gave birth to great joy in the life of those Christians of old.
The old fashioned way as promulgated by  the apostle is the missing link.

Turn with me to 1 Cor 7:3-5...Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence; and likewise also the wife unto the husband. The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife. Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that satan tempt you not for your incontinency.

How faithful are  you to your spouse or your faithfulness is defined by the advise of your friends or the ungodly books you turned into your model for living.
Christian marriage is designed for total faithfulness between couples. Seeking the best for each other without an aorta of selfishness or stubbornness.
The message Apostle Paul is preaching here is to foster full cooperation, unity and love between couples. 100% unity is needed in every Christian home if you want Jesus to be the head, author and finisher of our faith.

Whenever this link is broken, temptation set in which can kill the joy of such home, 1 Peter 5:8.

Looking deep at this message, it also preach, the act of good communication. The couple that talks together, Study together, plan together, play together,  pray together and succeed together.
Many home have become a partial war zone due to this message will call simple or normal.
Four years ago, a couple told me they have not eaten together for close to seven years.

Your partner is your best friend and should be your  closest ally.
The home is a forum where the couple should have a table of dialogue and consensual agreement.
You belong to each other and should do everything that the altar of  marriage is not polluted.

Whenever the altar of a marriage is polluted, there is an establishment of strange covenant enough to topple the plans of God for the home. It is a pity today that many Christians have joined the bandwagon to commit full scale adultery, thinking it is a secret.

Outside, terminal diseases, the wrath of God is on those who keep betraying his covenant.

Prayer is turn to abomination, proverbs 15:8
The children are placed in danger and giving evil model.

This message is not about sexual relation alone but particular in creating a model which will transcend  into godliness and moral etiquette.
It is left to you to do everything that will bring glory to God, it is not god’s plan that you divorce your spouses.

WHERE ARE THE PROPHETS?

Where are the prophets?
I often asked myself why there is dearth of clear prophecy on the situation of our country in a time like this. Jesus has told us in the scripture on what to expect in the endtime, Matthew 24. Two questions I would like everyone reading this article to answer are:
1.         Are we in the endtime?
2.         if yes, how do we triumph in a time like this?
The answers to the two questions are in the scripture, I only dare you to make a little research to understand my position in this brief journey.

Let me quote from 2 King 6:25-31.. This brought terrible famine, so bad that food prices soared astronomically. Eight shekels for a donkey’s head! Five shekels for a bowl of field greens! One day the king of Israel was walking along the city wall, a woman cried out, help, your majesty. He answered if God won’t help you, where on earth can I go for help? To the granary? To the dairy?
The king continued, tell me your story, she said, this woman came to me and said give up your son and we’ll have him for today’s supper; tomorrow we’ll eat my son. So we cooked my son and ate him. The next day I told her, your turn – bring your son so we can have him for supper,’ but she had hidden her son away.’
When the king heard the woman’s story he ripped apart his robe. Since he was walking on the wall, everyone saw that next to his skin he was wearing coarse burlap. And he called out, ‘God do His worst to me and more – if Elisha son of Shaphat stll has a head on his shoulders at this days end  (MESSAGE BIBLE)

The King states here that it shouldn’t be this worst when we have the representative of God in this nation. There were four problems in the lives of the Israelites, each leading to another. They were besieged by their neighbour and it led to scarcity, soon cannibalism and betrayal.
Follow me as we critically look at Nigeria situation, who are those that have besieged us?
The privileged few. This led to scarcity, human trafficking, baby factory, cannibalism, ritual killing, betrayal and counter betrayal.

Sad enough we don’t have a concerned king who will challenge the prophet(s), because he has also betrayed us one way or the order so this makes me think of the Elijah era.
Why frown at the mention of the prophet from Tishbite?  Another famine which led to great deliverance.

My point is this, Elijah pronounced the wrath of God on the Nation when they turned against God, three and half years later he came back to execute the judgment of God on the privilege few who had perverse the nation, 1 King 18.

Where are the prophets?
They have joined the bandwagon, 1 King 22:6 to prophesy before the kings and declare the popular message. God did not call you to say the common thing, see regular vision or partake daily on the kings table.

Where are the prophets?
We are no longer watching but sleeping, Ezekiel 33:1-10. Evil has befallen the nation. Oh I sob because the prophets have abandoned their watch tower Habbakuk 2:1-3.

Where are the Micaiahs, Elijahs, Elishas, Nathans who will confront the king, Oh where are the Jeremiahs, Isaiahs, Amos’, who will say it the way it is.

We need the prophets!, we need the prophets, come out from wherever you are, I dare you to join me in this crusade. We can no longer tolerate the Syrians to continue this invasion of our common wealth.

Before you start criticizing me, I am one of you and I challenge you to come out from your hiding palace. Enough of prophecy to raise fund, we need prophecy to raise destinies. Our nation is dying. Good news are not so common in our media infact they are becoming extinct.
We are called to also liberate our nation of the shackles of wicked ruler (we don’t have leader anymore in this nation).

Your knees are so smooth meaning you no longer tarry in intercession, You have modern electronics to adore your sitting room because you have dedicated more time to watching news than changing news on the mountain.

Wake up, prophets of God, Nigeria needs you.
We no longer condemned high level of impunity, where is the fear of God (Ecclesiastes 8:11-13).

The host of hell have closed your eyes from seeing solution but pollution. The drive for money and luxuries has torn your prophetic garments (Ecclesiastes 5:7).

Hear what Psalm 74:4-9
Thine enemies roar in the midst of thy congregations: they set up their ensign for signs. A man was famous according as he had lifted up axes upon the thick trees. But now they break down the carved work thereof at once with axes and hammers. They have cast fire into thy sanctuary, they have defiled by casting down the dwelling place of thy name to the ground. They said in their hearts, let us destroy them together; they burned up all the synagogues of God in the land. We see not our signs; there is no more any prophet; neither is there among us any that knoweth how long.

So, I asked again where are the prophets.

EXCERPT FROM THE PULPIT

DESTROYING THE YOKE OF DELAY
Deuteronomy 2:1-3
Destiny is a function of time. And it is the devils target. Satan does not attack you because of your past, he troubles you because of your future – that is his primary target!
For most of the time, when Satan see that he cannot derail you in destiny, he delays you; for when you are delayed long enough, you are destroyed.

IT WILL NOT BE TOO LATE FOR YOU  Matt. 25:1-12
Those 5 foolish virgins delayed the purchase of their oil. They bought what they should buy but at a wrong time. They delayed and the door was shut.
The door into destiny is close-able. Those five people were virgins, they waited for the bridegroom, they bought oil but they delayed and as such suffer destruction! You will NOT REGRET

Delay is destructive therefore be warned. God knew this and when the strange forces of delay took hold of Lot, he sent down his angels to release him.(Genesis 19:15-16)

The angelic forces of God are here today to set you free! No delay will hold you captive any longer.
“Progress” is the plan of God, “Delay” is the strategy of the devil.
Deut 2:1-3
Friends, you have wandered too long, you have waited enough. What thou doest do quickly.
Turn! Turn!! Turn!!! It’s time for movement.
Stop talking, start moving
Stop sleeping, start running
Stop chasing the shadow; begin to pursue the real thing.
· Start that business now!
· Start that schooling now!
· Start learning that thing now!!
The word says “turn”. Until you turn, your situation can’t turn. Life is no joke – begin to move.
“Today is the day of salvation” Now is the accepted time for your progress.

CAUSES OF DELAY
Until we recognize the immediate cause of delay we cant proffer genuine solution.
1. Indecision Sos. 5:2-6
He didn’t make up his mind on time, he delayed and he missed his lover. You will not miss your joy!
Don’t be double minded. Don’t doubt. Don’t harbour unbelief.
They didn’t enter their rests because of unbelief which gave birth to indecision.
2. Wrong use of the tongue Num. 14:27-33
The children of Israel murmured and God caught them. He thereafter delayed the whole nation for 40yrs.
What are you saying with your mouth? (Don’t say I can’t)
Start singing songs of praises, make mention of his great works and see him make a way for you!
Miriam spoke against Moses, and the whole nation stood still until she was restored and healed!
3. Closed Gate Josh. 6:1-2
God gave them the land but the enemies locked the gate.
Delay sometimes may be the handwork of the enemies.
But God can open any gate.
4. Curses
When a man is operating under a curse, he will ever remain a struggler until he is set free.
Setting you free is not the real thing, but the ability to retain the freedom!
ð If a man who is not paying tithe and progress is prayed for, he is temporarily free. But to remain free he must begin to pay tithe!
ð If a man under the curse of failure and backwardness imposed by wicked men is prayed for, he is free temporarily.
But to remain free he must not play with sin!
5. Fear of failure Num. 14
God wanted them to go but they feared the opposition and God said they will wander in the wilderness.
Failure is not new. It is a necessary step toward success.
not get the chance to succeed.
If you are fearing failure, you are dodging progress!

WAYOUT ?
1. Righteousness
Joshua led the children of Israel to conquer Jericho, they were to move forward and take Ai but Achan stole an accursed thing. And the whole of Israel was defeated.
Sin causes delay, it’s righteousness that can deliver you. That delay may not necessarily be because of your household enemies or witches in the village.
It may be because of that sin you are hiding!
It is that hidden sin that is hiding your success. Lose yourself. Come out of it.
2. Divine Intervention
Pharaoh delayed Israel, until God said enough is enough. This will not continue any longer and with his hand he brought them out and took them in into destiny.
In Exodus chapter 4, Pharaoh was told “let my people go”,but he refused. He delayed them until chapter 12 when the yoke of delay was totally broken and they were free forever.

PASTORS THIS IS SPECIALLY FOR YOU

SOLUTION TO THE POLLUTION IN TODAY’S CHURCH
“Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift that is in you….” (II Timothy 1:6)
“Of these things put them in remembrance….” (II Timothy 2:14).

The most important spiritual truths need to be emphasized again and again if the hearers are to truly learn them and benefit from them.
Here are seven biblical truths we pastors need to keep telling our people in the hope that eventually most will “get it.” (The list is not meant to be exhaustive. You’ll think of other essential truths that need hammering home again and again.)

1. Jesus Christ is the Savior of the World and the Only Savior.
That is the theme of so much Scripture anyway, isn’t it? How could we not keep the focus on the Lord Jesus — His identity, His life and ministry, His teachings, His headship over the church and His place in our lives — if we are being true to the Word?
Pastor, keep telling them — over and over again, the theme never wears out — ”why we make so much of Jesus.” Recently, a man here in North Carolina (where I’m in revival) told of the state legislature voting to make a certain Baptist preacher their chaplain, then firing him when he refused to take “In Jesus’ name” out of his prayers. And they call this perversion “inclusiveness.” Go figure. (Note: Many a New Testament prayer did not use the actual words “in Jesus’ name,” and we should not feel ours must always, either. However, tell me that I must leave Jesus out of the prayer and I’m gone.)
Jesus Christ is Lord, for now and for eternity, and no one else is. Always stay focused on the Lord Jesus with your people.

2. The Church Is an Essential Part of the Lord’s Plan, for Now and Forever.
And we are most definitely not referring just to your local congregation. As important as that is this will come as a surprise to a lot of lonely myopic pastors—the Kingdom of God is more than your church.
When Jesus saved you, He knew something you were about to find out: “You cannot live this new life in isolation. You need the family of God.” They hold onto you; you hold onto them. They instruct and nurture you; you turn around and do the same. This symbiosis has been God’s plan from early on.
“I will build my church,” the Lord said in Matthew 16:18. It’s His and He builds it. The Christ-follower who claims to be able to live for Christ better without the church is insulting His Lord. The church-leader who would run the Lord’s church “for Him” is asking for big trouble fast.

3. Salvation is All About the Cross.
Salvation is not by works of righteousness but humility, repentance and faith in Jesus Christ and what He did on Calvary.
The threat to turn salvation into a matter of works will never go away. It’s grounded in man’s way of thinking, his human (and thus self-centered) reasoning. To my knowledge, most of the religions of the world teach variations of “do this and you’re saved” or “do not do this and you are saved.” Only one, to my knowledge, proclaims that everything necessary has already been done and our task is to repent and receive it (“Him”).
When people tell me they believe their good works will get them to Heaven, I ask, “Then what was the point of the cross? If all God had to do was tell us ‘Y’all be good now, hear?’ then He sure went to a lot of trouble for nothing by sending Jesus into this world to die on a cross for our sins.” (They have no answer since they have never given these things the first thought. If you need further evidence of man’s sinful heart, there it is.)
Celebrate the grace of God, preacher, with your people. Keep them at the cross.

4. We Are Not Saved by Good Works, but Saved “Unto” God Works. (Ephesians 2:10)
Good works have a definite place in the plan of God for His people. But they are the results the fruits, the evidence of our salvation, not the means. One wishing to become a member of the military does not do so by wearing a uniform and saluting officers. But once he is officially inducted, he wears the uniform, obeys commands and salutes officers.
What good works does the Lord want to see in our lives? Scripture answers that again and again in places like Micah 6:8, Jeremiah 22:16 and of course, Matthew 25:35-36. I enjoy telling Harold Bales’ story of the time his church in uptown Charlotte, NC, was bringing in the homeless from the park across the street and feeding them breakfast before the morning worship service. A woman who had belonged to that church for generations and resented the presence of the unwashed in their services approached Pastor Harold one Sunday and said, “Pastor, why do we have to have those people in our church?” He said, “Because I don’t want to see anyone go to hell.” She said, “Well, I don’t want them to go to hell, either.” He said, “I’m not talking about them. I’m talking about you.”

5. If You Have Faith, You Will Pray.
In fact, nothing tells the story about your faith like your prayer life. Nothing.
Consider that you are praying to a Lord you have never seen and cannot prove. You say things to Him you would say to no one else and believe that He hears. Furthermore and this is the clincher 90 percent of the requests you make, you’ll never know whether He answered them or not since He may choose to do so in subtle ways or at another time. But there you go, praying to Him day after day, as though He were occupying the chair next to you and everything you do today is dependent on His presence and guidance.

Pastors keep prayer before their people by encouraging them to pray at the altar during the services, by having a prayer room at the church and by encouraging prayer for specific people, needs, events and concerns.

6. A Church Exists by Evangelism and Missions as a Fire Exists by Burning.
Sharing our faith is not an option, not for the gifted only (although admittedly some are more fluent and effective than others in this), and not to be done sporadically. “As you go, make disciples” was the command of our Lord in Matthew 28:18ff.
I stood in the foyer of a church of another denomination one day, reading their poster on evangelism. (You do not need my help in identifying the denomination by what follows.) The poster said something like, “Spread the word. Tell people about Prophet Joel.” I thought,  That’s not evangelism!.
Churches must be creative in finding ways to mobilize their members in spreading the faith, must be aggressive in supporting those who are getting it right and doing it well, and must be alert to the distractions which would push evangelism down the list of priorities in the church’s ministries.

7. The Bible Is the Inspired Word of God and the Spiritual Nutrition of Believers.
If you thought other church programs would crowd evangelism off the agenda, know that life has a way of pushing God’s Word out of the minds of believers.  The process seems to be the same for everyone, and works like this ...
You go a few days without reading your Bible, and soon you find yourself resisting the inner urge to get back to it. The more you cave in to that laziness that resents picking up the Word and opening it, the more you will find yourself saying (or thinking, or both): “I’ve read the Bible. I know it already. There’s nothing new there. It’s boring.”
Those are all lies out of hell. You do not know the Bible. You have not read it. (You may have read “at” it, but there is a world of content there which you have not yet mined.) It is not boring. You are boring, not the Word.
Job said, “I have esteemed the words of thy mouth more than my necessary food.” Jesus said, “Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.” David said the godly man’s “delight is in the Word of God and in that Word (law) doth he meditate day and night.”
Keep telling them, pastor. Keep preaching its insights and delighting in its treasures, and eventually they will get it.
Repetition is a great teacher. In fact, it may be the best teacher on the planet
