NOT LIKE OTHERS

"They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.
I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.
But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes" (Psalms 82:5-7).

Why should sons of God die like mere men? Why should the fate that befall mere men also befall children of the most High? Our Scripture verses for today give us some clues.

First, lack of knowledge is identified as a key reason why sons of God suffer the fate of sons of men. We should ask what type of knowledge the Bible is talking about. Certainly it wouldn't be secular, academic knowledge. I suppose that the knowledge being referred to here is the knowledge of the will, plan and programme of God. God created us for a purpose - to be His children, and if we are created to be God's children, we are also expected to behave like Him. Remember that He created us in His own image and after His likeness (Genesis 1:26).

Because of the lack of this particular knowledge, there is also a consequent lack of understanding as to how to conduct ourselves in this world. Most children of God don't bear it in mind that they are sons of God. They don't have it in their consciousness that they are different from the sons of men. So they go on behaving like mere men.

Like every ordinary man does, children of God also take decisions without consulting God. This is one particular area that has been so disturbing to me these days. Although they may say that they prayed about it, you will find that it is no more than the practice of a mere religious habit. As it is with normal, ordinary people who are outside the covenant in the blood of Jesus, the will of God means little or nothing to the Christian of today. But David was a different man, even though he operated under the old covenant.

Friend, we may look alike, walk this same earth, eat the same food, breath the same air and work in the same office. But I tell you, we are not the same. The Jews understand this a lot; spiritual Israelites must also know that they are different from the rest of men. This is not arrogance, I am just telling you the truth. I am not just like the rest of men. I am different; I'm a child of the Most High God and a member of His household. I don't take casual decisions. I take the pains to ask God and do my best to identify His counsel before taking any step. Yes, I don't always get it right, but I always get it done.

There should be no room for casual decisions by the believer. Casual decisions will eventually bring casualties. If you will avoid the uncertainties, purposelessness and casualties that befall mere men, you must seek and do the will of God in all your endeavours. And friends, let no one deceive you: the will of God is knowable. We will discuss the process in the nearest future.
