TOTAL PRAYER MODEL

"For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me" (2 Corinthians 12:8-9).

Prayer can be simply defined as talking with God. Notice the preposition 'with'. Prayer is not just talking 'to' God as most people do, for that would imply a one-way communication. But as we know, communication is incomplete and ineffective until you are able to gauge the response of the other party. Prayer in its truest sense should take you to the point of getting a response from God. Therefore, prayer as a tool to unravel the specific will of God is asking God about what you want to get involved in with a view to knowing and doing His will.

The Old Testament saints had a tradition of inquiring from the Lord in order to know His will on any matter. Moses sought the will of God, for himself and for the people he led. From him, we learn that leaders must seek the will of God in order not to mislead the people. Leaders must show their followers the will of God which they have discovered and encourage them to walk therein.

The man David is even a more classical example of seeking the will of God. No wonder he was described as a man after God’s own heart who would fulfill all of God's will (Acts 13:22). He was also described as a man who served his own generation by doing the will of God (Acts 13:36). You too can become a man after God’s own heart by ensuring that you seek the will of God in all that you do.

In our Bible verses for today, Apostle Paul had an issue on which he had to pray to the Lord. But notice that he did not stop praying until he got a response from God. Paul’s example here teaches us that God has a response for us when we pray to Him, if only we would keep on praying until we get the response. His words remain in force, saying, "Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not" (Jeremiah 33:3). AMEN!
