WE BELONG TO HIM...

"The earth is the LORD's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. 

For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods" (Psalms 24:1-2). 

Today's Scripture verse presents us with an incontrovertible statement of fact that we often seem to forget. The earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. I don't think anyone should have a problem with that because even scientific discoveries are establishing more and more that the concept of the world just coming into being by itself through some form of evolutionary process is rubbish. 

The sophistication of our ecosystem, the sublimity of the orderliness of the universe and so many other things point to the fact that there is a master planner somewhere, invisibly directing the course of the earth. Indeed, only an ignorant fool will contend that there is no God or that if there is God, He is not at involved with the affairs of this world. Atheism and agnosticism are no more than the results of pathetic ignorance. 

Friends, this earth belongs to the LORD. Everything in it is His own. This world belongs to the LORD. Everybody in it is His own. He founded the earth. He created the habitable part of it which we call the world. He created all the content of the world - the vegetation and the animals, the various bodies of water, the minerals and all the other resources of the earth. Yes indeed, our total ecosystem is the exclusive handiwork of the Lord our God and His exclusive property. 

But for me, the most instructive part of today's Scripture is that you and I also belong to God. My friend, it must be settled firmly in your innermost being that you belong to God, spirit, soul and body. You are God's property, absolutely. You don't own your life; you don't even own a single thing. All these statements have serious implications for the way we live and conduct ourselves. That will be the subject of another message. But for today, I want you to affirm it before the Lord and His holy angels. Shout it aloud and let the devil hear you say, "I belong to God. I am the LORD's for ever and ever"!
