MY LITTLE SECRET

In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel" (Romans 2:16).

A secret is defined as knowledge that is hidden. In the definition itself is a subtle contradiction because once you refer to something as "knowledge", there is really nothing secret about it anymore. At the best therefore, we could say that a secret is something hidden from the knowledge of some persons. It is only to those persons from whom it is hidden that it could be called a secret. The point therefore is that it is a waste of time to fool yourself thinking that you have some secrets somewhere. There is really nothing of such.

Although the word "secret" is neutral in itself, you will find that it is usually associated with the negatives of life. A wife having an affair and keeping it secret from her husband, a man having a child out of wedlock and keeping it secret from his wife, a fraud in the office kept secret from the management, or the misappropriation of public funds kept secret by political authorities. So then, the word "secret" has come to be synonymous with the covering up of a negative reality in order to purposely deceive or mislead others. But the Bible says that all such secrets shall be judged.

Keeping secrets with the intention to deceive others is a tool the devil uses very often to bring us into all forms of transgression. It promotes dishonesty, making us to tell lies upon lies. Sometimes, people go further to commit some very heinous and hideous crimes just to protect their secrets. Unfortunately, most of these cover-ups don't last for long because, as Jesus Christ has said, there is nothing hidden that shall not be exposed. And in any case, as observed earlier, what people think is a secret was never really a secret to begin with. It was only unknown to some people.

So, my dear friends, what are the secrets you have in your life? What are the lies and deceptions you are covering up? What are the skeletons you have in your cupboard? What are those things you are hiding from your spouse or business partner? What are those things you don't want others to know because if they do, you will be ashamed? It is better you take courage to expose them yourself so that you can become free. Follow Paul's advice when he said, we "have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God" (2 Corinthians 4:2).

Friends, you may think that you are smart today, but be assured that you cannot outsmart God. He knew all your secrets long before your ancestors were born and He's got everything figured out on how to expose everything you have covered. He has designated a day; it is called the day of reckoning. That day is coming when you will know that there really is nothing called secret. In that day, the so-called secrets of the hearts of men shall be judged. There shall be no hiding place and there shall be no excuse. The only way of escape is to amend your ways now by dismantling every tissue of lies you have put together, and begin to live a honest and forthright life.
