"That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God" (1 Peter 4:2).
Ordinarily,
time lost can never be recovered because time is not a renewable
resource. But with God, the Bible says that we can do something about
our use of time in the present that will make up for our misuse of time
in the past. It is called "redeeming the time". We should be grateful to
God for this because by redeeming the time, we are using our present to
obliterate the errors of the past.
The first
step to redeeming time is to repent of time already wasted. We must
repent of time wasted in the pursuit of dead works and godless
endeavours. Without that repentance, there can be no redemption. We must
acknowledge that we have not put the time God has given us to the best
of use. That acknowledgement is necessary to help us move forward with
the task of redeeming the time. After all, if no time has been wasted,
there would be no need to redeem time.
Next,
the Bible tells us that we should redeem time by using it to understand
what the will of God is. The first important use of time is to spend it
seeking to know God and understanding His will for your life and
concerning every situation you have found yourself. The moment you lose
it here, you may have lost it in every other way. For example, if you
miss the will of God in marriage and you marry the wrong person, you
have just signed up for a wasted marital lifetime that will be full of
patch-ups.
It is the will of God that you
should know Him, the only true God, and come to the saving knowledge of
Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son (1 Timothy 2:3-4). Life outside of
Christ is sheer waste of time. Please don't waste yours. Your
sanctification is the will of God (1 Thessalonians 4:3). A Christian
that is not living in righteousness and holiness is merely wasting his
or her time. It is the will of God that you should prosper and be in
health just as your soul prospers (3 John 2). Don't waste your life in
sickness, poverty and misery.
So rather than
wasting your time on gossip literatures, ungodly videos and worldly
music, invest your time and resources on materials that will help you to
know God and understand His will. Associate with people who will help
you know and do the will of God. Go to places where you will learn more
and more about God. The Bible says this is wisdom.
Friends,
as we can observe from our Scripture verse for today, it is the desire
of God that you should use the rest of your time in the will of God. As
you seek the Lord, may He grant you to know what is that good,
acceptable and perfect will of God for your life and concerning every
situation you may find yourself.
