"I will love thee, O LORD, my strength.
The LORD is my
rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I
will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower"
(Psalms 18:1-2).
Here was David, acknowledging the Lord God, not just as the source of his strength, but as his very strength. His energy came from God. His courage, wisdom and all the equipment with which he successfully functioned in all of his endeavours were all sourced from God. His testimony and secret is simple and straightforward: "God is my strength and power: and he makes my way perfect" (2 Samuel 22:33). Again, he testifies,
"The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart
trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth;
and with my song will I praise him" (Psalms 28:7).
This
will explain why David had an extraordinary career as a shepherd boy, a
warrior, a man of God, and as a statesman. As a shepherd, despite his
very young age, he overcame lions and bears who were threats to his
flock through the strength that God provided him. As a warrior, he never
lost a battle because God was his strength and confidence. His legacies
as a man of God are still with us, though he's been gone for thousands
of years. And as a statesman, his achievements are largely
unparalleled.
It is good to have the God of
David as your strength and confidence. Indeed, he invites us to join him
to "Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually" (1
Chronicles 16:11).
Sometimes we find ourselves at a point where we lack the inner strength
to push forward with our set goals. I don't know what you may be going
through right now, but the Holy Spirit would have me tell you that if
you will make God your strength and the Most High your confidence, He
won't fail you. You will be safe and secure. If you are in any kind of a
mess, the Lord would have me tell you that you are coming out whole, if
only you will trust and wholly lean on Him to bring you out.
Finally,
I want you to know that God is able to give strength to all. No matter
who you are and what your circumstances are, God is able to supply you
with adequate strength to scale through. Everyone of us is qualified to
make the Lord his or her strength. Everyone who is willing can proclaim,
"The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my
strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my
salvation, and my high tower".
